ORD 33536 - Landmark Designation - Gurdon Wattles Residence C3-95-28 ORDINANCE NO 3353 AN ORDINANCE to designate the Gurdon Wattles House, located at 320 South 37th Street, as a landmark pursuant to the Landmark Hentage Preservation Ordinance of the City of Omaha BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OMAHA Section 1 The Gurdon Wattles House, located at 320 South 37th Street, is on the following described land Lot 15, 16 and 17, Block 20, Highland Place Addition, except those portions taken for the Harney Street right-of-way Section 2 That for the reasons cited in the Landmarks Heritage Preservation Commission Resolution attached hereto as Exhibit "A", and made a part hereof by this reference, is deemed to have historical value and sigmficance and is therefore worthy of recognition Section 3 That the Gurdon Wattles House is hereby designated pursuant to Section 24-61 of the Omaha Municipal Code Section 4 That this Ordinance shall be in full force and take effect fifteen (15) days from and after the date of its passage INTRO UCED BY —SUNCILMEMBER it? MAYOR OF THE CITY OF OMA A PASSED APR 11 1995 6' A TEST CITY CLE OF THE ITY OF OMA A APPROVED T ORM ‘', ' SISTAlek TTORNEY P\PLN\0692 MLF RESOLUTION-EXHIBIT A /6/ 02 GURDON WATTLES RESIDENCE LANDMARKS HERITAGE PRESERVATION COMMISSION RESOLVED BY THE LANDMARKS HERITAGE PRESERVATION COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OMAHA WHEREAS,William A and Mary Anne Kay are the owners of the Gurdon Wattles Residence at 320 South 37th Street, and, WHEREAS,the owners have requested that the Gurdon Wattles residence, and the adjoining carriage house, be designated as a Landmark under the City of Omahas Landmarks Preservation Ordinance, and, WHEREAS, the Gurdon Wattles Residence was built in 1895, and, WHEREAS,the Gurdon Wattles Residence was design by Omaha architect Thomas Kimball, and, WHEREAS,the architectural style combining Gothic and Italian renaissance features, referred to as the Chateauesque style, is rare in Omaha,and, WHEREAS,the Gurdon Wattles Residence is significant architecturally as the finest example of the Chateauesque style in Omaha, and, WHEREAS,the building is significant as the residence of Gurdon Wattles, who was a noted Omaha business leader, and president and organizer of the Trans-Mississippi Exposition in 1898, and WHEREAS, it is the intent of the owner to continue the use of the structures as a primary residence and apartments, and, WHEREAS,this case application and supporting data are attached hereto as exhibits, and incorporated herein by this reference NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LANDMARKS HERITAGE PRESERVATION COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OMAHA THAT, the Gurdon Wattles Residence, 320 South 37th Street, be designated a Landmark of the City e+ Omaha S • v •." a7 9MS A I I I 12 /275 e ti " P . 10 N o rr�s 20 rs 13 ks rr9 s iss ^PT L.
