ORD 29851 - Landmark Designation - Dietz Memorial United Methodist Chruch ORDINANCE NO. c�9‘6 AN ORDINANCE to designate the Dietz Memorial United Methodist Church, located at 1423 South 10th Street as a Landmark pursuant to the Landmark Heritage Preservation Ordinance of the City of Omaha. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OMAHA: Section I. That the Dietz Memorial United Methodist Church is located at 1423 South 10th Street, which is on the following described land, to wit: Lot 9, Block 7, Forest Hill Addition to the City of Omaha, as surveyed, platted and recorded in Douglas County, Nebraska Section 2. That for the reasons recited in Landmarks Heritage Preservation Commission Resolution attached hereto as Exhibit I, and made a part hereof as if fully set forth herein, the architectural characteristics of the Dietz Memorial United Methodist Church are hereby deemed significant and worthy of preservation. Section 3. That the Dietz Memorial United Methodist Church is hereby designated pursuant to Section 24-61 of the Omaha Municipal Code, and hereby subject to all of the provisions of Landmark Heritage Preservation, Ch. 24, Art. II.of the City of Omaha. Section 4. That this Ordinance shall be in full force and take effect fifteen (15) days from and after the date of its passage. Robertson is chairman of the Board of Trustees of Dietz Memorial United Church ; and, WHEREAS , this representative, on March 1 , 1982, requested that Dietz Memorial United Church be designated as a Landmark under the City of Omaha' s Landmarks Heritage Preservation Ordinance ; and, WHEREAS , Dietz Memorial United Methodist Church was originally Saint Matthias ' Episcopal Church; and, WHEREAS , Saint Matthias ' Episcopal Church was built in 1888-89 ; and , WHEREAS , Saint Matthias ' Episcopal Church is architecturally significant as a record of a brief period in American Episcopal Church building history during which Romanesque Revival elements won acceptance ; and, WHEREAS , Saint Matthias ' Episcopal Church is a rare Midwestern example of a church design influenced by H .H . Richardson ' s renowned 1872-77 Trinity Church in Boston.
