ORD 29308 - Landmark Designation - Edgar Zabriskie Residence ORDINANCE NO o5 9'J Os/ AN ORDINANCE to designate the Edgar Zabriskie Residence, located at 3524 Hawthorne Avenue as a Landmark pursuant to the Landmark Heritage Preservation Ordinance of the City of Omaha BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OMAHA Section 1 That the Edgar Zabriskie Residence is located at 3425 Hawthorne Avenue, which is legally described as follows The South 113 feet of Lot 4, Block 4, Bemis Park Addition, Douglas County, Nebraska Section 2 That for the reasons recited in Landmarks Heritage Preservation Commission Resolution attached hereto as Exhibit I, and made a part hereof as if fully set forth herein, the architectural characteristics of the Edgar Zabriskie Residence are hereby deemed significant and worthy of preservation Section 3 That the Edgar Zabriskie Residence is hereby designated pursuant to Section 24-61 of the Omaha Municipal Code, and hereby subject to all of the provisions of Landmark Heritage Preservation, Ch 24, Art II of the City of Omaha Section 4 That this Ordinance shall be in full force and take effect fifteen (15) days from and after the date of its passage INTRODUCED BY COUNCILMEMBER APPROVED MAYOR OF THEeMAHA/°S/'U PASSED DDT 14 'i u ATTEST ITY CL F THE CI MA APPROVED AS TO FORM RESOLUTION - EXHIBIT I EDGAR ZABRISKIE RESIDENCE LANDMARKS HERITAGE PRESERVATION COMMISSION RESOLVED BY THE LANDMARKS HERITAGE PRESERVATION COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OMAHA WHEREAS, James M Bechtel is the owner of the Edgar Zabriskie Residence, and, WHEREAS, the owner, on July 14, 1980, requested that the Edgar Zabriskie Residence be designated as a Landmark under the City of Omaha's Landmark Heritage Preservation Ordinance, and, WHEREAS, the Edgar Zabriskie Residence was designed by the Omaha architectural firm of Fowler and Beindorff, and, WHEREAS, the Edgar Zabriskie Residence, constructed in 1889, is a flamboyant version of the Queen Anne style of architecture, and, WHEREAS, the Edgar Zabriskie Residence is one of the two best Eastlake-influenced houses in the city, and, WHEREAS, the Edgar Zabriskie Residence is historically related to ship officer, Civil War veteran and Union Pacific general agent Edgar Zabriskie who purchased one of the first lots in Bemis Park, a new residential suburb planned by George P Bemis in the late 1880s NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LANDMARKS HERITAGE PRESERVATION COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OMAHA THAT, the Edgar Zabriskie Residence, 3524 Hawthorne Avenue, be designated as a Landmark of the City of Omaha - o 0' e "G g IV T C C CO CO C Z Z G. r -nWO � p -i dN G = z a z r C m z (f _„ _ ea 1to i al , On 1 .
