WHEREAS, it has been determined that it is in the best interest of the City of Omaha
to provide for commemorative street names; and,
WHEREAS, a nomination has been submitted for the designation of "Mike Gann
Boulevard" as a commemorative street name on Mockingbird Drive from 107th Street to 108th
Street.; and,
WHEREAS, Mike Gann is the Assistant Chief Engineer at Omaha's KMTV. After
earning his Engineering degree from the University of Nebraska in 1974, Mike worked at KFAB .
for over four years before joining KMTV as a staff engineer in 1978. He has guided KMTV
through a number of technological advancements to continually meet new industry standards and
is a recognized expert in his field. Gann has been called upon countless times by colleagues,
former coworkers, and even competitors over the years due to his in-depth knowledge of RF
engineering. Beyond his daily involvement with KMTV's towers, control rooms, cameras, live
trucks, and video streams, Gann is highly respected as a mentor to engineers throughout the
region. Engineers are the unsung heroes of the broadcasting business, and Gann personifies the
best of his profession. Mike is a member of the Nebraska Broadcasters Association and was
inducted into their Hall of Fame in 2018.
WHEREAS, the Planning Director and the City Councilmember representing the
district in which the item proposed is located have recommended that said permit be granted
pursuant to the application, a copy of which is attached hereto as Exhibit "A" and made a part
hereof by this reference.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF OMAHA:
THAT, that the nomination of "Mike Gann Boulevard" as a commemorative street
name on Mockingbird Drive from 107th Street to 108th Street is hereby approved; and the Public
Works Department is authorized to erect the acceptable sign(s) therefore, incompliance with all
applicable local and state statutes, ordinances or regulations, and policies with all costs to be borne
by the applicant.
