RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OMAHA:
WHEREAS, it has been determined that it is in the best interest of the City of
Omaha to provide for commemorative street names; and,
WHEREAS, a nomination has been submitted for the designation of"Fred Astaire
Avenue" as a commemorative street name on 10th Street from Martha Street to Castelar Street;
and,
WHEREAS, Fred Astaire, born Frederick Austerlitz, was born in Omaha,
Nebraska on May 10th 1899. Astaire is one of the most famous actors to be born in Omaha.
He was an American dancer, singer, actor, television presenter, and choreographer. His
stage and film career lasted 76 years. Astaire was named by the American Film Institute as
the fifth greatest male star of classic Hollywood cinema in 100 years. He was awarded an
Emmy, a Golden Globe, a Lifetime Achievement Award, and numerous other honors and
dedications. This street sign would honor Astaire on 10th Street between Martha Street and
Castelar Street.

WHEREAS, the Planning Director and the City Councilmember representing the
district in which the item proposed is located have recommended that said permit be granted
pursuant to the application, a copy of which is attached hereto as Exhibit"A" and made a part
hereof by this reference.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
OMAHA:
THAT, that the nomination of "Fred Astaire Avenue" as a commemorative street
name on 10th Street from Martha Street to Castelar Street is hereby approved; and the Public
Works Department is authorized to erect the acceptable sign(s) therefore, in compliance with
all applicable local and state statutes, ordinances or regulations, and policies with all costs to
be borne by the applicant.
