RES 2023-1021 - Offutt Drive Commemorative Street City Clerk Office Use Only: RESOLUTION NO. �/2 23 1 02 J Publication Date (if a plicable): Agenda Date: Department: Submitter: CITY OF OMAHA LEGISLATIVE CHAMBER Omaha, Nebraska RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OMAHA: WHEREAS, it has been determined that it is in the best interest of the City of Omaha to provide for commemorative street names; and, WHEREAS, a nomination has been submitted for the designation of"Offutt Drive" as a commemorative street name on 39th Street from Davenport Street to its southern terminus; and, WHEREAS, in 1894, Casper and Anna Yost built the Offutt Mansion with architect Henry Ives Cobb. The French Chateauesque-style Mansion cost a mere $15,000 in 1894, $10 million in today's dollars! Casper and Anna presented the home as a wedding gift to their only daughter, Bertha. In 1916 the accompanying carriage house was built near the rear of the property. The Offutt Manor was one of the earliest high-style mansions in Omaha. It is a two and one-half story 17 room escape located in Omaha's Historic Gold Coast District. The Manor features Gothic Revival architecture with a symmetrical facade, steeply pitched tomato red slate roof and impressive front entrance. WHEREAS, the Planning Director and the City Councilmember representing the district in which the item proposed is located have recommended that said permit be granted pursuant to the application, a copy of which is attached hereto as Exhibit "A" and made a part hereof by this reference. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OMAHA: THAT, that the nomination of "Offutt Drive" as a commemorative street name on 39th Street from Davenport Street to its southern terminus is hereby approved; and the Public Works Department is authorized to erect the acceptable sign(s) therefore, in compliance with all applicable local and state statutes, ordinances or regulations, and policies with all costs to be borne by the applicant. Fanslau, Planning Director SUBJECT: Commemorative Street Designation of"Offutt Drive" Based on my review and on the criteria for Commemorative Designations in Chapter 27 of the Omaha Municipal Code, it is my recommendation that the commemorative street name of "Offutt Drive" be applied to 39th Street from Davenport Street to its southern terminus.
