ORD 42838 - Landmark Historic Preservation - Elkhorn Town Hall C3-21-267 zZ3 ORDINANCE NO. I g AN ORDINANCE to designate the historic Elkhorn Town Hall located at 20515 Corby Street as a landmark pursuant to the Landmark Heritage Preservation Ordinance of the City of Omaha. BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OMAHA: Section 1. That the historic Elkhorn Town Hall located at 20515 Corby Street, which is on the following described land,to wit: LANDS SEC-TWN-RGE 12-15-10 E 24 FT T L 11,as surveyed,platted and recorded in Douglas County,Nebraska, is hereby deemed historically significant and worthy of recognition for the reasons cited in Landmark Heritage Preservation Resolution attached hereto as Exhibit"A"and made a part hereof by reference. Section 2. That the "Secretary of Interior's Standards for Rehabilitation and Guidelines for Rehabilitating Buildings", as may be from time to time amended, are hereby adopted as the design standards to be applied in the enforcement of this ordinance and Chapter 24, Article II, of the Omaha Municipal Code. Section 3. That the historic Elkhorn Town Hall is hereby designated as a landmark pursuant to Section 24-61 of the Omaha Municipal Code and hereby subject to all of the provisions of this Ordinance and Chapter 24,Article II, of the Omaha Municipal Code. H-A3g PAGE 2 INTRODUCED BY COUNCILMEMBER APPROVED BY: �t ICU -b , z-'5-20Z-Z___ PASSED FEB 0 I ?jU .2, 0 MAYOR OF THE CITY OF OMAHA DATE ATTEST: Z2 CITY CLERK OFT ITY OF OMAHA DATE APPROVED AS TO FORM: /4Z4Za, Awl CITY ATTORNEY DATE P1n4296d1h RESOLUTION — EXHIBIT A Elkhorn Town Hall LANDMARKS HERITAGE PRESERVATION COMMISSION RESOLVED BY THE LANDMARKS HERITAGE PRESERVATION COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OMAHA: WHEREAS, Tyler Curnes is the owner of the Elkhorn Town Hall; and, WHEREAS, this owner, on March 29th, 2021, requested that the Elkhorn Town Hall be designated a Landmark under the City of Omaha's Landmark Heritage Preservation Ordinance; and, WHEREAS, the building, is located at 20515 Corby Street in the downtown of the former village of Elkhorn which has been annexed by the City of Omaha; and, WHEREAS, the building is significant for its association with government and politics from 1904 until 1966 as it housed a library, jail cell, city government business office, record storage vault, and fire equipment storage room and was used for the precinct polling place, court proceedings, and meeting place for a variety of community organizations; and WHEREAS, the building retained its essential form, scale, and configuration. The simple rectangular building of common red brick, symmetrical front façade oriented to the street, bell cupola, and corbelled parapet are all contributing features to the building's character and design; and, WHEREAS, the Elkhorn Town Hall's historic significance satisfies the following standards for designation as a Local Landmark under the Omaha Landmarks Heritage Preservation Ordinance; Standard A: Historical and cultural importance, having significant character, interest or value, as part of the development, history, heritage or cultural characteristics of the city, state or nation; or is associated with the life of a person significant in the past; or is the site of an historic event; or exemplifies the cultural, political, economic, educational, social or historic heritage of the community; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LANDMARKS HERITAGE PRESERVATION COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF OMAHA: THAT, the Elkhorn Town Hall at 20515 Corby Street, be designated as a Landmark of the City of Omaha.
