The attached Resolution approves the placement of a commemorative street sign on 32" Street
from Pacific Street north one (1)block to be called "Marlon Brando Street".
The Planning Department has received a request from the South Omaha Neighborhood
Association for the placement of a commemorative street sign on 32nd Street from Pacific Street
north one (1) block to be called "Marlon Brando Street". After reviewing the request of Steve
Block of the South Omaha Neighborhood Association, the Planning Department recommends
approval.

For Whom it may concern:i
Marlon Brando is one of Hollywoods ' and the film industry' s true giants . :
Coming to the movies in 1950 and continuing to this day as a major force
in cinema.
Brando' s impact is still being felt today. He singlehandedly created
what is
now known
as the "method" actor. He would get into his character and literally
become
them thru a stylized form of acting . THE WILD ONE, was his breakthrough
film
depicting 1950 's era juvenile delinquents . His film credits are
impressive
and too lengthy to list here, outstanding are, SAYONARA, which dealt
with
interracial marriage between causcasians and asians . ONE EYED JACKS, a
moody
and inovative western, his remake of MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY, THE UGLY
AMERICAN, The WW2 classic THE YOUNG LIONS and perhaps his most famous
film
of all THE GODFATHER. Marlon Brandt is most deserving of having a street named after him in
the
city of his birth. A true Icon of the entertainment industry.

RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OMAHA:
WHEREAS, it has been determined that it is in the best interest of the City of
Omaha to provide for commemorative street names; and,
WHEREAS, a nomination has been submitted for the designation of "Marlon
Brando Street" as a commemorative street name on 32nd Street from Pacific Street north one (1)
block; and,
WHEREAS, Marlon Brando is a Nebraska native,born in Omaha; and,
WHEREAS, Marlon Brando is a true icon of the entertainment industry beginning
his movie career in 1950 and continuing to this day; and,
WHEREAS, the Planning Director has recommended that said commemorative
name be granted pursuant to the nomination, a copy of which is attached hereto as Exhibit "A"
and made a part hereof by this reference.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF OMAHA:
THAT, the nomination of "Marlon Brando Street" as a commemorative street
name on 32nd Street from Pacific Street north one (1) block is hereby approved and the Public
Works Department is authorized to erect an acceptable sign therefore, in compliance with all
applicable local and state statutes, ordinances or regulations, and policies.
