Stothert)" as a commemorative name of Fire Station 31 located at 3404 Q Street.; and, WHEREAS, Dr. Stothert was recruited to Omaha in the early '90s and was tasked with building a foundation for the regional hospital trauma system that is currently in place today. Throughout his tenure, he demonstrated an unwavering commitment to excellence as both a trauma surgeon and throughout his service as the Medical Director of multiple departments and agencies. His encompassing contributions to public safety have been instrumental in our city and throughout the state of Nebraska. Dr. Stothert's contributions to public safety, some of his greatest accomplishments, were his passion. Dr. Stothert worked diligently to enhance the model for emergency medical services (EMS) that area first responders utilize to assess, treat, and transport patients who are suffering medical and/or traumatic emergencies. His contribution to the development of advanced life support policies and protocols is the basis of what our Paramedics and EMTs master as EMS providers. As the Medical Director of the Omaha Fire Department for nearly two decades, he built the system that we operate under today. Having also served as the Director of Trauma for the State of Nebraska and as the Medical Director for Eppley Airfield, Douglas County 911, and Metropolitan Community College, there is no doubt that Dr. Stothert's influence has contributed to the saving of countless lives throughout our region. Dr. Stothert and his reputation of being someone who truly cared about his relationship with first responders and the enhancement of our service delivery potential is held in the highest regard within the ranks of the Omaha Fire Department. WHEREAS, the Planning Director and the City Councilmember representing the district in which the item proposed is located have recommended that said permit be granted pursuant to the application, a copy of which is attached hereto as Exhibit "A" and made a part hereof by this reference. Stothert)" Based on my review and on the criteria for Commemorative Designations in Chapter 27 of the Omaha Municipal Code, it is my recommendation that the commemorative name of"Fire Station 31 (Joseph C. Stothert)" be applied to Fire Station 31 located at 3404 Q Street.
