All of the yardwaste received by the facility must be processed by a grinder prior to composting to reduce particle size, and mix incoming materials to produce the proper composting environment. The primary grinder for the operation is a unit manufactured in Germany by Doppstadt. The annual repairs for this grinder are much higher than normal due to the need to replace several large internal components that are simply worn out. The parts are only available from the Doppstadt factory, there are no other alternative suppliers of these parts. Please prepare a resolution to Murphy Tractor and Equipment Co., Inc. (the local Doppstadt rep.) for approval by the City Council for this purchase. Total cost for repairs and labor is $33, 875.08. Funds for this repair should come from cost center 11111- 116331. It should be noted that the replacement cost for the Doppstadt grinder would be approximately $400,000. If you have any questions, please contact Marc McCoy at 444-6191, or me at 444-3915 ext. 230.
