Honorable President
and Members of the City Council,
Mayor Jean Stothert and Police Chief Todd Schmaderer believe it would be in the best interest of
the City of Omaha to consider engaging in a public/private partnership which would enhance
Crime Lab operations and efficiency. The purpose of this Resolution is to ask the City Council to
express its support for the Mayor and the Police Chief to explore the concept of a Joint Crime Lab
which would involve the cooperation of the City of Omaha, the University of Nebraska Medical
Center, the Nebraska Organ Recovery System, and any other entity that might be interested.
We respectfully request your support of this Resolution.

RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OMAHA:
WHEREAS,the City of Omaha operates a crime lab which performs certain testing for itself
and other law enforcement agencies; and,
WHEREAS,the City of Omaha also contracts out for the performing of some crime lab
testing functions; and,
WHEREAS,it would be in the best interests of the City of Omaha to consider engaging in
a public/private partnership that would enhance operations and create efficiencies; and,
WHEREAS,the City of Omaha is interested in exploring the concept of a joint Crime Lab
that would involve the cooperation of the City of Omaha,the University of Nebraska Medical Center,the
Nebraska Organ Recovery System, and any other entity that might be interested; and,
WHEREAS,the City of Omaha,through the Mayor and the Police Chief,is encouraged to
explore this option in detail over the next few months.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF OMAHA:
THAT, the City Council of the City of Omaha hereby expresses its support for the
Mayor and the Police Chief to explore the concept of a Joint Crime Lab that would involve the
cooperation of the City of Omaha,the University of Nebraska Medical Center,the Nebraska Organ
Recovery System, and any other entity that might be interested.
