Transmitted herewith is a Resolution establishing the speed limits on sections of streets in the
City of Omaha. Listed below are the sections of streets that the Public Works Department
recommends should have the speed limits confirmed and/or established:
14th Street from lzard Street to Dodge Street. The speed limit for this section of road established
by previous resolution is 30mph, but it is currently signed at 25mph. It is recommended that the
speed limit be set at 25mph.
15th Street from Cuming Street to Mike Fahey Street (formerly Webster Street). The speed limit
for this section of road established by previous resolution is 30mph, but it is currently signed at
25mph. It is recommended that the speed limit be set at 25mph. •
24th Street from "Q" Street to "L" Street. The speed limit for this section of road established by
previous resolution is 30mph, but it is currently signed at 25mph. It is recommended that the
speed limit be set at 25mph.
96th Street from "Q" Street to Harrison Street. The current speed limit for this section of road is
35mph. A recent improvement project created additional capacity and turning lanes to match
other sections along the corridor. Based on the results of an engineering study, it is recommended
that the speed limit be set at 40mph, which is the same speed limit as the section north of "Q"
Street.
Irvington Road from Blair High Road to Vernon Avenue. The speed limit for this section of road
established by previous resolution is 35mph, but it is currently signed at 40mph. When the
alignment of Irvington Road was changed when Sorensen Parkway was constructed, the
resolution was not updated accordingly. It is recommended that the speed limit be set at 40mph.
Missouri Avenue from 20th Street to"L" Street. The speed limit for this section of road established
by previous resolution is 35mph, but it is currently signed at 30mph. It is recommended that the
speed limit be set at 30mph.
These speed limits shall be the official speed limits for the City of Omaha as authorized by Section
36-123 as amended by Ordinance No. 30764 passed August 20, 1985, and effective September
5, 1985.

The Public Works Department recommends your consideration and approval of the attached
resolution.

RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OMAHA:
WHEREAS, Ordinance No. 30764 to amend Section 36-123 of the Omaha Municipal
Code was approved by the City Council on August 20, 1985; and,
WHEREAS,the said Ordinance provides that the City Traffic Engineer is authorized
to establish speed limits of a greater or lesser rate of speed than twenty-five(25) miles per hour for
any and all streets within the City of Omaha; and,
WHEREAS,the said Ordinance also provides that official speed limits for the City of
Omaha may also be adopted by Resolution of the City Council of the City of Omaha; and,
WHEREAS, the Public Works Department has recommended that certain speed
limits be confirmed and/or established as set forth in this resolution.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
OMAHA:
THAT, the speed limits be confirmed and/or established as follows for the following
streets:
STREET SPEED LIMIT
14th Street from Izard Street to Dodge Street 25
15th Street from Cunning Street to Mike Fahey Street 25
24th Street from"Q" Street to "L" Street 25
• 96th Street from "Q" Street to Harrison Street 40
Irvington Road from Blair High Road to Vernon Avenue 40
Missouri Avenue from 20th Street to "L" Street 30
Prior resolutions setting the boundaries and speed limits for specific areas to the contrary are hereby
accordingly amended.
