In response to your letter of September 18, 1995 request-
ing a supplement to the resume previously forwarded to you,
T submit the following .
During the 1980 ' : I served a four year term as a member of.
the Board of Directors of the Historical Society of Douglas
County. It was during this period that the society took on
the tremendous task of preserving the morgue of the Omaha •
World-Herald . Having microfilmed the materials for its own
use, the newspaper sought a home for the originals . This
-reservation assignment, accomplished with grant moneys from
the Peter Kiewit Foundation and other sources, involved re-
enforcing the build ing next to the Cr Kok House at Fort Omaha
and installing humidity controls for the preservation of its
contents .
The Soc.i P y''; annex soon became the home of other newspa-
pers ' archives as well . The b _ ndd volumes of the Omaha Bee
and the Sun newspapers followed, as well as other perishable
memerahi I i a . Omaha owes a great debt to the volunteers and
underpaid employees of the Society who spent long hours
cataloging these materials - all now safely housed in a
humidity controlled environment and available for research .
As a society director i was vitally interested in the suc-
cess of this project as well as the preservation of the
Crook House itself . Both are great assets for the city.
Recently, while a Trustee of the Nebraska Historical.
Society Foundation . I have been interested in the activities
of this society's preservation activities . Most of these -
center around items in the Lincoln archives, but during the
• past two years have involved the coy t_rurction of museums at
Chimney Rock in western Nebraska and at the site of Presi -
dent Ford ' s home in Omaha . Jim Paxson, who gave of his time
and fortune for the creation of the Ford memorial , was a
treasured friend . This week-end, as a Trustee, I will par-
ticipate in the memorial ' s dedication .
I trust this summary of my activities is what you seek .
Your truly,
