ORD 43506 - Amend OMC Section 23-177 - Maintenance Repairer I 4 ORDINANCE NO. 3 DV
AN ORDINANCE to amend Section 23-177 of the Omaha Municipal Code by changing the
salary for the employment classification known as Maintenance Repairer I from a pay
range of $20.17 to $25.52 to a pay range of $20.17 to $26.53; to repeal Section 23-177
as heretofore existing; and to provide the effective date hereof.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OMAHA:
Section 1. That due to the length of the affected Ordinance, Omaha City Council Rule
VII(B) requiring amending ordinances to recite the entire section is hereby waived solely for the
purposes of this Ordinance and only the lined out material to be deleted and the underlined
material to be added shall be recited herein.
Section 2. That part E. Classifications — Civilian Bargaining Unit, subpart Labor (06) of
Section 23-177 of the Omaha Municipal Code is hereby amended by increasing the pay range
of the classification entitled Maintenance Repairer I, Code Number 6200, from a pay range of
$20.17 to $25.52 to a pay range of$20.17 to $26.53, as follows:

Section 3. That Section 23-177 of the Omaha Municipal Code, as heretofore existing is
hereby repealed.

effect fifteen (15) days following the date of its passage.

NATURE OF WORK:
This is skilled work at the sub journey level in a trade such as plumbing;or carpentry. Incumbents
are responsible for manual labor work in the upkeep and repair of commercial, industrial, and
residential buildings, facilities, equipment, and grounds.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: (Any one position may not perform all the duties listed, nor do the listed
examples include all the duties that may be performed in positions allocated to this class.)
Performs rough-in and finish carpentry such as hanging or repairing drywall, including walls,
ceilings, and building wheelchair ramps, and repairing or replacing floors.
Repairs rotted subfloors and joists.
Performs finish carpentry, such as installing door trim, baseboards, and quarter rounds.
Replaces or repairs stairways,windows, and doors, including screens.
Installs stairs, handrails, grab bars, and window and door locks.
Installs pre-hung/slab doors, storm doors, and storm windows.
Winterizes door trims, windows, and air conditioners.
Performs household minor repairs and painting duties..-, including walls,trim, and ceilings.
Performs and assists with minor plumbing, including installing and repairing faucets, toilets, sink
baskets,P-traps, and center/end outlets, and water line shutoffs.
Installs smoke detectors and motion lights.
Inspects the work to be done at project sites and prepares estimates of the material and labor costs
involved.
Compiles records and prepares reports of completed work and materials used.

Repairs and maintains refrigeration systems, checks for leaks and keeps oil and Freon at proper
levels, and repairs heating and air conditioning systems.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in at least two of the building
trades.
Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions involved in the building trades.
Knowledge of the geography of the City of Omaha.
Skill in the use and maintenance of assigned tools and equipment.
Ability to understand sketches,plans, and area maps.
Ability to prepare reports of work completed and materials used.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and
members of the general public.
Ability to understand oral or written instructions.
Ability to adhere to safety policies, procedures, and guidelines.
Ability to reach, balance, bend, squat, kneel, crouch, crawl, stand, walk, push, pull, and lift 50 to
100% of the time and to climb and stoop from 50 to 75% of the time.
Ability to use up to one hundred (100) pounds of force occasionally, up to fifty (50) pounds of

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: (The knowledge, skills, and abilities above may be acquired

Three (3) years of experience in the operation of tools and equipment of the type assigned to this
class_, or, if assigned to the Traffic Division of the Public Works Department, two (2) years as a
Semi skilled Laborer.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Depending upon the division in which an incumbent is assigned, he or she may be required to
possess and maintain a valid class "0" automobile driver's license or a class "B" commercial
driver's license with "N" endorsement and no air brake restriction.
Must obtain a forklift operator's certificate issued by the city by the end of probationary period.
