BIOGRAPHICAL DATA
L. B.-"Red" Thomas
September 1996
Thomas joined Nebraska Consolidated Mills (name later changed to
ConAgra, Inc.) as assistant to the Treasurer in 1960 when annual sales were
$50 million. In those early years he was the NCM Co. finance department,
personnel department, ran a flour/feed mill in Sheridan, WY and helped clean
out the offices on Saturday mornings. Such performance got him named
Assistant Treasurer in 1966. He became Vice President Finance in 1969; Vice
President Finance and Treasurer in 1974; added the Corporate Secretary title
in July 1982; Senior Vice President Finance and Corporate Secretary in 1991,
and in 1993 reduced his work load and assumed the title of Senior Vice
President, Corporate Secretary and Risk Officer. He served on ConAgra's
Management Executive Committee, Capital Committee, Employee Benefits
Committee, and as an officer and -director of over two hundred ConAgra
subsidiaries.
Thirty-six years later after ConAgra became a $25 billion international
foods company, fourth largest food company in the world, Thomas retired in
October 1996.
Thomas was born March 3, 1936 in St. Joseph, Missouri. Attended
Omaha Central High School and has a B.S. in Business Administration from
Kansas University and a M.B.A. in Finance from Indiana University. He and
his wife, Jann, reside in Omaha and have three grown children, Bruce, Evelyn
and Birch. His personal interests include art (direct metal sculpture), golf,
skiing, (and when his knees worked squash and tennis). His civic and
professional affiliations include, or have included, the following:

WHEREAS, Section 14-23 of the Omaha Municipal Code provides for the
appointment of members to the Library.Board; and,
WHEREAS,the term of G.Richard Russell on the Library Board will expire on June
30, 1997; and,
WHEREAS,Mayor Hal Daub has appointed Lawrence B. Thomas to serve on the
Library Board,said term to commence July 1, 1997 and to expire on June 30,2000.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF OMAHA:
