Transmitted herewith is a Resolution approving the award of a contract with Hawkins Construction
Co. for the replacement of the 16th Street viaduct from Leavenworth Street to Pierce Street. This
project is identified as Federal Aid Project BRM-5095(2), State Control No. 21333,and City special
Project SP 87-31.
In accord with the terms of the Program Agreement executed for this project, approved by the City
Council by its Resolution#910, adopted on April 14, 1998, the State of Nebraska Department of
Roads received bids for this work on May 28, 1998. The lowest and best bid of$6,987,786.46 was
received from Hawkins Construction Co.
The following bids were received for this work:
Hawkins Construction Co. $6,987,786.46 (LOW BID)
Chas. Vrana& Son Construction Co. $7,673,275.22
Kiewit Western Co. $8,166,333.25
This project will be constructed with assistance from the Federal Highway Administration providing
80%of costs determined eligible for such assistance. Based on the lowest and best bid received in
this bid process, the local City share (20%) is estimated to be $1,397,557.00.
Hawkins construction Co. has filed the required Annual contract Compliance Report Form, CC-1,
in the Human Relations Department. As is City policy,the Human Relations Director will review
the consulting firm to determine its compliance with Ordinance 28885.
The Public Works Department requests your consideration and approval of the attached Resolution.

.. RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OMAHA:
WHEREAS,the City of Omaha is desirous of replacing the 16th Street viaduct from
Leavenworth Street to Pierce Street also known as Federal Aid Project BRM-5095(2),State Control
No. 21333 and City Special Project No. SP 87-31; and,
• WHEREAS,the replacement of the 16th Street viaduct is eligible for assistance from
the Federal highway Administration which will provide 80%of eligible project cost,as detailed in the
Program Agreement executed for this project and approved by the City Council by its Resolution
#910,adopted on April 14, 1998; and,
WHEREAS,in accordance with the terms of that Program Agreement,the Nebraska
Department of Roads received bids for this project on May 28, 1998 with Hawkins Construction Co.
submitting the low bid of$6,987,786.46; and,
WHEREAS,under the terms of a Program Agreement,the City will pay the local cost
of 20%or approximately$1,397,557.00.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF OMAHA:
THAT, the bid received by the Nebraska Department of Roads from Hawkins
Construction Co. in the amount of$6,987,786.46, being the lowest and best bid received for the
replacement of the 16th Street viaduct from Leavenworth Street to Pierce Street,is hereby approved.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:
THAT, the Finance Department is authorized to pay the City's share of this project
cost,estimated to be$1,397,557.00 from the 1993 Street&Highway Bond, Organization 1509,Fund
333.
