Hal Daub,Mayor Public Works Director Honorable President and Members of the City Council, Transmitted herewith is a Resolution requesting a relaxation by the Board of Public Roads Classifications and Standards of a specific design standard involved in the paving of Poppleton Avenue from 72nd Street westward for approximately 250 feet. This construction project is part of the reconstruction of 72nd Street from Cass Street to Interstate I-80. The project involves the widening of 72nd Street from a four/five lane undivided urban section to a six lane urban section with a raised median. Due to the widening, all connecting side roads will be reconstructed as necessary to tie back into their existing grades. The existing grade on Poppleton Avenue is approximately 12.5%. In order to tie back into the existing grade, the street will have to be reconstructed at an approximate 14.0%grade. The elevation of the eastern end of the street is controlled by the width of the reconstructed 72nd Street. The elevation of the western end of the street is controlled by existing homes/businesses which do not allow a change in elevation. The grade of 14.0% exceeds the maximum of 10% in the Board of Classifications and Standards Minimum Design Standard 001.15. The relaxation of the standard must be considered and approved by the Board of Classifications and Standards before the project can be constructed. The Public Works Department requests your consideration and approval of the attached Resolution and Agreement. Respectfully submitted, Referred to City Council for Consideration: Xt> ii/7// .
