Transmitted herewith is a BID TABULATION and a RESOLUTION authorizing the Purchasing
Agent to issue a Purchase Order to Martel Lift Systems for one (1) 6,000 lb. new forklift truck to
be used by the Public Events Division of the Parks, Recreation and Public Property Department.
A-1 Forklift was the apparent low bidder,but their bid was rejected due to twelve exceptions on their
forklift. Vehicle Maintenance felt these were major non-acceptable exceptions as noted on the
attached Interoffice Memorandum to the Purchasing Agent.
The Finance Department is authorized to pay the cost in the amount of$23,999.95 from the General
Fund No. 001, Agency No. 120, and Organization No. 1266, Stadium Operations.
The contractor has on file a current Annual Contract Compliance Report Form(CC-1). As is city
policy, the Human Relations Director will review the contractor to ensure compliance with the
Contract Compliance Ordinance.
The Parks, Recreation and Public Property Department recommends the acceptance of the bid from
Martel Lift Systems in the total amount of$23,999.95 for a 6,000 lb. new forklift truck being the
lowest and best bid received,within the bid specifications, attached hereto and made a part hereof,
and request your consideration and approval of this Resolution.

SPECIFICATIONS •
FOR
FORKLIFT
6,000 LBS.
GENERAL:
Forklift to be the latest current model, of standard design complete with will standard
equipment, tools and warranty. Bidders are to supply full description and descriptive
materials on unit bid with the proposal. Forklift must comply with all Federal Safety
Regulations.
ENGINE:
Water-cooled, Gas/lp engine with a minimum of four (4) cylinders, and a minimum of
180 cu inches. The engine shall develop sufficient horsepower at a governed speed of no
more than 2,400 R.P.M.'s to drive and operate with rated capacity. The engine must be
able to run on gasoline or propane.
To be equipped with governor, disposable type fuel and oil filters and heavy-duty dry
type air cleaner. Twelve (12) volt ignition and push button electric starter, 70 amp hour
battery, alternator(35 amp minimum), ammeter or volt meter, hour-meter, oil pressure
and coolant temperature gauges. All gauges shall be mounted on panel. Forklift gauges
shall be equipped with automatic engine shut down device to protect against low oil
pressure and high coolant temperatures.
Lights: To have Front headlights, Rear work lights, and Brake Lights. To have top
mounted strobe lights. All head and work lights to be halogen.
COOLING SYSTEM:
Water-cooled engines shall have adequate cooling to permit continuous operation of
engine without overheating. Antifreeze to be minus 35 degrees F. water-cooled engine.
Propane to have swing out bracket to include one full 33 pound on unit and 1 full spare
33 pound bottle.
TRANSMISSION:
To be power shift with one (1) forward and one (1) reverse gear. To have electrical,
backup alarm.

To be approximately sixty-five (65") inches.
TIRES:
Front to be pneumatic 12 ply rough terrain approximate size 28X9-15.
Rear to be pneumatic 10 ply rough terrain approximate size 6.5X10.
BRAKES:
Foot shall be hydraulic.
Parking shall be hand operated.
LIFT:
To have 3 section valve: 1 Lift, 1 Tilt, and 1 Power Shift.
Load capacity 6,000 lbs., at 24" load center at 24" height from ground.
Forklift reach to be a minimum 185"
Fork size 5" wide,42" long, 2" thick. Tilt range 6 degrees forward, 10 degrees

WHEREAS,bids were received on April 7, 1999, for one (1) 6,000 lb. new forklift
truck, for the Public Events Division of the Parks, Recreation and Public Property Department; and,
WHEREAS, Martel Lift Systems submitted the best bid, within bid specifications,
for the purchase of the forklift in the total amount of$23,999.95; and,
WHEREAS,Martel Lift Systems has complied with the City's Contract Compliance
Ordinance No. 28885 in relation to Civil Rights -Human Relations; and,
•
WHEREAS,the Mayor has recommended acceptance of this bid.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF OMAHA:
THAT,as recommended by the Mayor,the bid in the total amount of$23,999.95 from
Martel Lift Systems for one(1) 6,000 lb. new forklift truck,being the lowest and best bid received,
within the bid specifications, attached hereto and made a part hereof, is hereby accepted, and the
Purchasing Agent is authorized to issue a purchase order in conformance herewith. Funds in this
amount shall be paid from the General Fund No. 001,Agency No. 120, and Organization No. 1266,
Stadium Operations.
