Transmitted herewith is a Resolution approving the amendment of lease agreement to allow the
purchase of a Maxigrind 460G tree grinder from Murphy Tractor and Equipment. The Public Works
Department has been renting this tree grinder since the October 1997 snow storm. Murphy Tractor
has agreed to apply all of the purchase rental payments toward the purchase price of this tree grinder.
The cost of this machine was $180,000.00 when new. The rental amounts paid to date are
$129,305.91. Subtracting the two leaves $50,694.09 remaining to be paid. The estimated current
value of the machine is $140,000.00. Due to an ongoing need for tree debris and wood grinding in
the City, the Public Works Department and the Parks and Recreation Department wish to take
advantage of this opportunity to buy the tree grinder.
The funds will be paid equally from three sources. The amount from each will be $16,898.03. The
funds are the Solid Waste Disposal, Compost Operations, Organization 1456, Fund 555; the Street
Maintenance, Organization 1418, Fund 103; and the Park Maintenance, Organization 1214, Fund
001.
The Public Works Department requests your consideration and approval of the attached Resolution.

RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OMAHA:
WHEREAS,the City has been renting a Maxigrind 460G tree grinder from Murphy
Tractor and Equipment since the October 1997 snow storm; and, ,
WHEREAS,Murphy Tractor has agreed to amend the agreement to apply all rental
payments made to date to the purchase price; and,
WHEREAS, the $180,000.00 new cost of the machine has been reduced by
$129,305.91 in rental payments made to date which leaves $50,694.09 remaining; and,
WHEREAS, there is a continuing need for tree debris and wood grinding in the City
and the Public Works Department and the Parks and Recreation Department wish to share the cost
to buy this machine.
NOW,THEREFORE,BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF OMAHA:
THAT,the Purchasing Department is hereby authorized to amend the existing rental
contract by issuing a purchase order for the Maxigrind 460G tree grinder, currently in the possession
of the City, to Murphy Tractor and Equipment for$50,694.09.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:
THAT, the Finance Department is authorized to pay $16,898.03 from each of the
following three funds: Solid Waste Disposal, Compost Operations, Organization 1456, Fund 555;
the Street Maintenance,Organization 1418,Fund 103; and the Park Maintenance Organization 1214,
Fund 001.
