City of Omaha Public Works Director
Hal Daub,Mayor
Honorable President
and Members of the City Council,
Transmitted herewith is a Resolution authorizing the renewal of membership in the Water
Environment Research Foundation(WERF) for 2000. The City joined WERF in 1997.
The Water Environment Research Foundation is an organization of over 250 utilities and
corporations dedicated to finding cost effective ways to do water quality research. The City of
Omaha has already participated in a benchmarking study of wastewater utilities which was
funded by WERF. The Omaha Wastewater Treatment Plants have used the information from.
this study to reduce costs and also in the areas of toxicity control of the treatment plant effluents.
Future projects WERF will sponsor which are of interest to Omaha revolve around the watershed
planning process. The Public Works Department wishes to be an active participant in these
projects. .
The Utility Subscription Program is based on the size of our wastewater system. The cost of
2000 will be $25,272.00 which will be paid from the year 2000 Missouri River Plant Operations
budget, Organization 1469, Sewer Revenue Fund 541. In addition to participation in all of
WERF's efforts, Omaha will play an important advisory role as a member of the Foundation's
' Utility Council, providing input into research program priorities.
The Public Works Department requests your consideration and approval of the attached
Resolution.
Respectfully submitted, Referred to City Council for Consideration:
