The attached Resolution approves the contract with Daedalus Construction Co. for the paving of
14th Street from Capitol Avenue to Chicago Street. This project is part of the overall public
improvement work for the Omaha World Herald Redevelopment Project and is in accordance
with the Redevelopment Agreement that was approved by the City Council on February 9, 1999.
The following bids were received on August 16, 2000. The Engineer's Estimate for this project
is $308,185.00.
Contractor Bid
Daedalus Construction Co. $256,915.45 (LOW BID)
Midwest Paving, Inc. $285,297.50
L. G. Roloff Construction Co., Inc. $299,081.55
Swain Construction, Inc. $319,613.00
Kiewit Western Co. $341,733.00
The Finance Department is authorized to pay the cost of S.P. 97-8G in the amount of
$256,915.45 from the Omaha World Herald Redevelopment Project Account, Fund Number 358,
Agency 140, Organization 1514.
The last review by the Human Relations Director showed the contractor is in compliance with
Ordinance No. 28885 and that the contractor has on file a current Annual Contract Compliance
Report Form (CC-1). As is City policy, the Human Relations Director will continue to review
the contractor to ensure compliance with the Contract Compliance Ordinance.

The Planning and Finance Departments recommend acceptance of the low bid from Daedalus
Construction Co. in the amount of $256,915.45 for S.P. 97-8G, being the lowest and best bid
received, and request your consideration and approval of this Resolution.

WHEREAS, bids were received on August 16, 2000, for S.P. 97-8G, Downtown
Northeast Redevelopment, 14th Street Paving; and,
WHEREAS, Daedalus Construction Co. submitted a low bid of.:$256,915.45,
being the lowest and best bid received for S.P. 97-8G, Downtown Northeast Redevelopment, 14th
Street Paving; and,
WHEREAS, Daedalus Construction Co. has complied with the City's Contract
Compliance Ordinance No. 28885 in relation to Civil Rights—Human Relations.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF OMAHA:
THAT, the bid of $256,915.45 from Daedalus Construction Co. for S.P. 97-8G,
Downtown Northeast Redevelopment, 14th Street Paving, being the lowest and best bid received,
be accepted and the contract awarded.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:
THAT, the contract with Daedalus Construction Co., as recommended by the
Mayor, in the amount of$256,915.45, is hereby approved.
BE IT ALSO FURTHER RESOLVED:
THAT, the Finance Department is authorized to pay the cost of S.P. 97-8G,
Downtown Northeast Redevelopment, 14th Street Paving Capitol Avenue to Chicago Street, in
the amount of $256,915.45, from the Omaha World Herald Redevelopment Project Account,
