The attached Resolution approves the placement of a commemorative street sign on 13th Street
from.Dodge to Webster Street to be called "Goodfellows Drive At 13th. Street."
The Planning Depaitinent has received a request from Mr. Charles A. Wood for placement of a
commemorative street sign on 13th Street from Dodge to Webster Streets to be called
"Goodfellows Drive At 13th'.: Street" After reviewing Mr. Wood's request the Planning
Department recommends approval.

5. Description and Significance: Please provide as thorough a description as
possible. Include a statement explaining why it is appropriate to name this
feature in this way. If a feature is proposed to be named for an indivichni, please
detail the significant contributions of the individual and how they relate to the
guidelines.
To recognize the long and enduring service provided by World-Herald Goodfellows Charities to needy
families in the area,we propose re-naming a portion of 13th Street that adjoins the new Omaha World-
Herald Freedom Center,to"Goodfellows Drive at 13th St."
World-Herald Goodfellows Charities,Inc.has served needy families in this area since 1910. Since its
incorporation as a 501C3 in 1945,the charity has raised and distributed more than seven million dollars to
help the needy with clothes,utilties,medical prescriptions,glasses,housing costs shoes for children and
food for the holidays.
In most cases,Goodfellows is the last hope many families have,and as always,we assist as many
families as possible.All monies are raised during a two-month holiday campaign. With the Omaha
World-Herald paying all costs to operate Goodfellows,all donations go to help the needy.
This re-naming would coincide with the opening of the new World-Herald Freedom Center under
construction north of Capitol Avenue between 12th and 14th Streets. The grand opening of the facility is
planned for September 1,and we would like to include the re-naming of 13th Street as part of the
dedication.

RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OMAHA:
WHEREAS, it has been determined that it is in the best interest of the City of
Omaha to provide for commemorative street names; and,
WHEREAS, a nomination has been submitted for the designation of
"Goodfellows Drive At 13th ' Street as a commemorative street name on 13th Street from Dodge
to Webster Street; and,
WHEREAS, World-Herald Goodfellows Charities, Inc. has served needy families
in this area since 1910; and,
WHEREAS, the Planning Director has recommended that said commemorative
name be granted pursuant to the nomination, a copy of which is attached hereto as Exhibit "A"
and made a part hereof by this reference.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF OMAHA:
THAT, the nomination of "Goodfellows Drive At 13th Street" as a
commemorative street name on 13th Street from Dodge to Webster Street is hereby approved and
the Public Works Department is authorized to erect an acceptable sign therefore, to be provided
by the applicant, in compliance with all applicable local and state statutes, ordinances or
regulations, and policies.
