Honorable President
and Members of the City Council,
The purpose of the attached Resolution is to name the new football complex in Levi Carter Park
the"Jerry Parks Youth Football Complex". This naming was introduced by Councilmember
Frank Brown.
The City of Omaha received a grant from the Kiewit Foundation to build a new youth football
complex in Levi Carter Park. This first class facility will include two lighted football fields, a
restroom building with a pressbox, parking lot, scoreboards and landscaping. The construction is
nearly complete and it is now appropriate to name this facility.
On October 1, 2001, the Park and Recreation Advisory Board voted unanimously in favor of
naming this facility in honor of Jerry Parks. Jerry spent 39 years serving the citizens of Omaha
in a variety of positions, including Director of Parks, Recreation and Public Property Department
It is a fitting and appropriate tribute to his dedication to the citizens of Omaha and his long years
of service and contributions to youth sports activities to name the youth football complex in Levi
Carter Park in his honor. The City's Naming Advisory Committee reviewed the proposed name
and had no objection. Therefore, it is the recommendation of the Parks and Recreation Advisory
Board to officially name the youth football complex in Levi Carter Park the "Jerry Parks Youth
Football Complex".
