The relationship, facilitated by the Omaha Chapter of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, would promote educational, cultural and recreational pursuits, as well as promote international understanding through the exchange of people and ideas. If approved, the Resolution would allow representatives of the City of Omaha and the Omaha Sister City Association to formalize a relationship agreement with the civic leaders of Naas by the end of the year. Mike Fahey Mayor C-25A CITY OF OMAHA • LEGISLATIVE CHAMBER Omaha,Nebraska RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OMAHA: WHEREAS, the citizens of Omaha, Nebraska, USA and Naas, Ireland, have developed a relationship that includes educational, cultural and recreational pursuits.; and, WHEREAS, this relationship, in large part due to the work of the Omaha Chapter of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, continues to grow and contribute to the understanding of the global impact that local resources and decisions can accomplish; and, WHEREAS, the objective of the Omaha Sister City Association is to promote international understanding through the exchange of people and ideas; and, WHEREAS, community, education and civic leaders from Omaha and Naas have met to discuss the benefits of an international Sister City relationship; and, WHEREAS, representatives of the Sister City Associations of the two cities and representatives of their City governments have agreed that a Sister City relationship would enrich the cultural, educational, and economic aspects of life in the two cities. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OMAHA: THAT, the City of Omaha enter into an international Sister City relationship with the City of Naas, Ireland, and that representatives of the City of Omaha and the Omaha Sister City. Association be encouraged to complete details of the arrangement to accomplish formal agreement in the year 2001.
