Hal Daub,Mayor Public Works Director Honorable President and Members of the City Council, Transmitted herewith is an Ordinance approving an extension of the contract with Deffenbaugh Industries, Inc. for solid waste, recyclable, and yard waste collections in the City of Omaha. The City Council, by Ordinance No. 33500 on March 21, 1995 adopted contract SC94-7A with Deffenbaugh for solid waste and recyclable materials collection. Ordinance No. 33502 on the same date adopted Contract SC94-7D for yard waste collection. The contracts were for seven years and had provisions for a contract extension for three years. The Public Works Department recommends a contract extension. This will extend the present contracts through December 31, 2005. The first years estimated cost of both is $10,986,844 which will be paid from the Solid Waste Collection and Disposal Organization 1454, Agency 140, Fund 001. The contract has provisions for cost increases due to annexations and for inflation. • The Public Works Department requests your consideration and approval of the attached Ordinance. ORDINANCE NO. 3 54P 3 ai AN ORDINANCE approving extensions of three years of contracts with Deffenbaugh Industries, Inc. for solid waste, recyclable and yard waste collections involving the payment of money from appropriations of more than one year in accordance with Section 5.17 of the Home Rule Charter, as amended; having a total first year estimated cost of$10,986,844 to provide for payments from a specific account; and to provide an effective date hereof. WHEREAS, the City Council, by Ordinance No. 33500 on March 21, 1995, adopted a contract, SC 94-7A, with Deffenbaugh Industries, Inc. for solid waste and recyclable materials collection service; and, WHEREAS, the City Council, by Ordinance No. 33502 on March 21, 1995, adopted a contract, SC 94-7D, with Deffenbaugh Industries, Inc. for yard waste collection service; and, WHEREAS, both contracts provided for an initial service period of seven (7) years, and provided an option for the City to extend the contracts for an additional period of three (3) years; and, WHEREAS, the Public Works Department recommends such contract extensions for a three (3) year period, through December 31, 2005. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OMAHA: Section 1. The first "WHEREAS" section indicated that contract SC 94-7A was for yard waste collection service. Actually, that contract was for • solid waste and recyclable materials collection. This has been corrected.
