Attached is an Ordinance authorizing the City of Omaha to accept a grant award to the City of
Omaha in the amount of$1,212,400.00 from the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice
Assistance, under the Local Law Enforcement Block Grant Program. This grant will provide for
the funding to supplement the Omaha Police Department's technology initiatives, community-
based prevention programs, one position as a Crime Prevention Specialist at the Southwest
Precinct, officer overtime, and equipment related to basic law enforcement functions.
The grant is for a two-year period commencing upon final approval. The grant match is 10% of
the award, and has been budgeted for in the 2002 police budget.

AN ORDINANCE approving the acceptance of the Local Law Enforcement Block Grant in the
amount of $1,212,400.00 from the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice
Assistance, providing for funding to supplement the Omaha Police Department's
initiatives in the prevention of crime and fear of crime to include technology, community-
based prevention programs, personnel, officer overtime, and equipment related to basic
law enforcement functions; involving appropriations of more than one year in conformity
with Section 5.17 of the Home Rule Charter; providing for payment from specific
account; and,providing for the effective date hereof.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OMAHA:
Section 1. That, as recommended by the Mayor, the Local Law Enforcement Block
Grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance, provides supplemental
funding for the Omaha Police Department; a copy of which is attached and by this reference
made a part hereof, is approved.
Section 2. The grant period extends for a two-year period commencing upon approval of
this ordinance. In conformity with Section 5.17 of the Home rule Charter, approval of this grant,
involving appropriates of more than one year for receipt of grant funds and expenditures as
outlined in the grant, are authorized.
Section 3. That the match to this grant is 10% of which has been budgeted for in the
2002 Omaha Police budget.
Section 5. That funds used in completing the requirements of this grant will be paid from
Fund 166, Agency 200, Organization 6206.

take effect immediately upon passage.
