Mr. Kraft requests a resolution on the April 20, 2004, Council Agenda honoring Mr.
Phil Sokolof, founder and owner of Phillips Manufacturing Company, the Sokolof
Foundation, and the National Heart Savers Association. Mr. Sokolof began his
crusade against the consumption of saturated fats by encouraging large food
processors to eliminate tropical oils from their products. Attached is an article
providing additional information concerning his continuing efforts to reduce the
formation of cholesterol by reducing saturated fats in the human diet.

RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OMAHA:
WHEREAS, Phil Sokolof was born in Omaha and graduated from South High
School; and,
WHEREAS, Phil Sokolof was the founder and owner of Phillips Manufacturing
Company; and,
WHEREAS, Phil Sokolof founded the National Heart Savers Association to fight
cholesterol in processed foods and promote healthy eating; and,
WHEREAS, Phil Sokolof began his crusade against the consumption of saturated
fats by encouraging large food processors to eliminate tropical oils from their products; and,
WHEREAS, Phil Sokolof was instrumental in congressional passage of a bill
requiring nutrition labels on food; and,
WHEREAS, we extended our deepest sympathy to the family.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF OMAHA:
THAT, it does hereby honor the memory of Phil Sokolof for his battle to fight
cholesterol in processed foods and promote healthy eating; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED:
THAT, a copy of this resolution be spread upon the minutes of this City Council
and that a copy of this Resolution be sent to the Sokolof family.
