INTEROFFICE COMMUNICATION
POLICE DEPARTMENT
"To Serve and Protect" Co(0)1
March 22, 2004
TO: Seized Assests Review Committee
(
FROM: Lt. Donald Truckenbrod, Narcotics Unit 2 ►V.4
SUBJECT: Spare 800 MHz Radios for Offsite
The purpose of this inter-office is to request funds to purchase 8 spare 800 MHz
portable radios for use at the offsite.
Because of the nature of the investigations conducted at the offsite (task force
investigations) we work directly with other agencies on almost a daily basis. With
the exception of Douglas County, the other agencies assigned to the task force do
not have 800 MHz capabilities. Having the ability to communicate during
surveillance or undercover operations is critical. Without the ability to communicate
effectively we take the chance of jeopardizing the investigation and/or risking officer
safety.
If funding were approved, the 8 spare radios would be available to OPD personnel
for sign out on a day to day basis, depending on the need. The radios would not be
permanently assigned to any outside agency personnel.
I have identified the costs associated with the purchase of these radios, which is
listed below. I did not include battery chargers since I currently have 3 6-bank
chargers available.
Description Quantity Unit Price Total
XTS5000 Tier II Portable 8 $3,382 • $27,056
Ruggedized Housing 8 $183 $1,464
Encryption 8 $547 $4,376
3 Year Warranty 8 $41 $328
Total $33,224
Thank you for your consideration in this request.
