The attached Ordinance provides for the creation of one new classification, Information Services
Technician II.
The reason for the proposed creation of this classification is to free sworn officers, currently in
supervisory positions at the front desk at Police Headquarters, to assume duties more in line with
law enforcement. Co-incidental to this benefit are two additional benefits: primarily, cost savings
and, secondarily, affording a career path for current Information Technician employees. A copy
of the class specification is attached for your convenience.
The salary level assigned to this new classification has been determined to be equivalent to that
of a Police Information Operator II, beginning at $14.91 per hour and having a top step of
$17.12.
The classification was submitted and approved by the Personnel Board at its July 28, 2006
meeting.

1 AN ORDINANCE to amend Section 23 - 177 of the Omaha Municipal Code concerning

3 Services Technician II; to repeal Section 23 - 177 as heretofore existing; and to provide
4 the effective date hereof.
5 BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OMAHA:
6 Section 1. Due to the length of the affected ordinance, Omaha City Council Rule VII(B)
7 requiring amending ordinances to recite the entire section is hereby waived solely for the
8 purposes of this ordinance and only the lined out material to be deleted and the underlined
9 material to be added shall be recited herein.
10 Section 2. Section 23 - 177 of the Omaha Municipal code is hereby amended by adding
11 the classification entitled Information Services Technician II, Code Number 5137, pay range
12 ($14.91 - $17.12), to amend part E of that section, entitled Classification: Civilian Bargaining
13 Unit, in the subpart entitled Clerical, Code No. 5137, as follows:

NATURE OF WORK
This work involves training, providing work direction in customer service to Information
Services Technicians at the front desk of Police Headquarters and participating in the
administrative work of the Omaha Police Department Police Services Bureau. An incumbent in
this classification performs the duties of this classification with considerable independence and
receives general guidance from a superior.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Any one position may not perform all of the duties as listed, nor do
the listed examples include all of the duties that may be performed in positions allocated to this
class.)
Participates in the hiring process, trains, assigns, provides direction to, checks the work of, and
recommends discipline for subordinate Police Services Bureau staff.
Informs subordinate staff of new governmental directives or procedural changes.
Prepares personnel schedules, monitors attendance and leave usage, and records time and
attendance electronically.
Maintains daily records of audit checks for errors and corrects entries.

Recommends revisions to instructional manuals.
Performs other duties as assigned or as the situation dictates within the scope of this
