By virtue of Ordinance 35043, adopted by the City Council on October 19, 1999, the Metropolitan Entertainment and Convention Authority (MECA) was created. Therein, Article V (b) of MECA's by-laws provides that all successive directors shall be appointed on an alternating basis by the Mayor of the City of Omaha and by the City Council for a term of five (5) years. It is currently the Council's turn to make an appointment and the Council would like to nominate and appoint Michael Green for a second term commencing on May 10, 2007,and ending on May 9, 2012. "The Development of Nuclear Energy in Cuba" — a seminar hosted by the Georgetown University Caribbean Project,Washington,D.C. (July 14, 1998). Invited lecturer. 0 ., June 18-19, 2001 —Invited Participant. ugo Pons Duarte, XXIII International Congress of the Latin American Studies Association, Washington, D.C., September 6-8, 2001. of the Board of Directors for the Chicano Awareness Center,the City of Omaha Personnel Board, the Board of Justice for Our Neighbors, a community immigration and legal aid service and the Corporate Board of Directors of FBG Services Inc.. His Latino Politics course at UNO includes student participation in an interdisciplinary service learning project to address issues of fair housing, immigration, voter participation and social justice issues in the greater Omaha area. He represented the State of Nebraska at the 2002 National Hispanic Leadership Summit in Washington, D.C. He recently published a study for OLLAS of Latino political, social and economic conditions in Nebraska. Dr. Benjamin-Alvarado has received numerous grants including: the John Beverly and Elena Diaz-Verson Amos Foundation; The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation; The Ford Foundation; The Johns Hopkins University Cuba Exchange Program; and the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Georgia for his work on Cuba. He was formerly a Project Manager for the Center for Nonproliferation Studies at the Monterey Institute of International Studies under the direction of Dr.William Potter.
