The attached Ordinance would adopt the 2006 edition of the International Residential. Code. The
City currently uses the 2000 edition of that Code. Adoption of the new 2006 edition will update
the City's regulation of residential construction. The Ordinance also provides for several local
modifications to the International Residential Code.
The City's Building Board of Review has reviewed this Ordinance and has expressed its support
for it.

1 AN ORDINANCE to amend Omaha Municipal Code §§ 43-121 and 43-127, to adopt the 2006
2 edition of the International Residential Code, along with certain amendments thereto; to
3 suspend, for the purposes of section 2 of this ordinance only, the requirement of City
4 Council. Rule of Order VII-B that new material be shown underlined and deleted material
5 be shown lined out; to repeal §§ 43-121 and 43-127 as heretofore existing; and to provide
6 the effective date thereof.
7 BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OMAHA:
8 Section 1. That § 43-121 of the Omaha Municipal Code is hereby amended to read as
9 follows:
10 Sec. 43-121. Building codes adopted.

12 The following codes are hereby adopted and shall be considered the building codes for the city:

14 1. The International Building Code, 2000 edition, chapters 2-35 inclusive;
15
16 2. Appendix I, "Patio Covers", of the International Building Code, 2000 edition;
17
18 3. The International Residential Code, 2000 2006 edition, Chapters 2-23 inclusive, and Chapter
19 43;

21 4. Appendix K, "Sound Transmission", of the International Residential Code, 2000 2006
22 edition; and

24 5. The International Energy Conservation Code, 2000 edition.

26 Specifically not adopted are Appendix Chapters A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H, and J of the International
27 Building Code, 2000 edition. Also not adopted are Chapters 1 and 24-42 inclusive and

2 townhouses not more than three stories above-grade in height with a separate means of egress
3 and their accessory structures. The International Building Code shall apply to the construction,
4 alteration, enlargement, replacement or repair of all other buildings and structures, and any new
5 construction required as a result of moving any other building.

7 Sections of these codes are modified, amended or deleted elsewhere in the article. Three copies
8 of the International building Code, the International Residential Code and the International
9 Energy Conservation Code are to be retained on the file with the city clerk. These codes shall be

3 M1501.1, Outdoor discharge. Change to read as follows: The air removed by every
4 mechanical exhaust system shall be discharged to the outdoors. Air shall not be
5 exhausted into an attic, soffit, ridge vent or crawl space.
