Tip Top Thrift Shop, Inc. 5910 Maple Street Omaha,NE 6810 September 4,2008 Buster Brown,City Clerk Omaha/Douglas Civic Center 1819 Farnam Street, Suite LC 1 Omaha,Nebraska 68183-0112 Dear Mr. Brown: Thank you for the timely notification of the request of the DBA Musette Bar to expand its business into the public sidewalk which is in front of that business, taking about 13' x 17' of that sidewalk. Viewing their front, it appears that the bar would provide about 2'x17' of their proposed expansion. The Tip Top Thrift Shop is a 501-c-3 business, dedicated to the support of the Uta Halee Girls Village. Through the past several years,we have sent over$1,000.00 per week to UHGV. Much of our purchasing traffic has come from pedestrians who walk that very public sidewalk which Musette Bar proposes to close by installing their beer garden on it. That is,the request is to fill a public space with a for-profit business, forcing any pedestrians to walk through that business. Not incidentally, that east-west sidewalk is often used by school children from Benson High School. We want to make clear our position, which is that the request should NOT be granted. Cordially, 144, Robert C. It appears that they are interested in adding a beer garden to the public sidewalk in front of their business. As a body of volunteers and Tip Top Board members we ask that this request be denied. Tip Top is located in the same area of Benson as the Musette. The block has very little area for pedestrian traffic. We feel that a beer garden would make it difficult to navigate the area. There are many drinking establishments in the Benson area, a beer garden encourages drinking even more. We are always concerned with underage drinking and many students from Benson High School and Monroe Middle School walk through our area. Our position is that the request be DENIED.
