Together these projects mark a watershed in the field of urban design and planning due to their unprecedented ability to engage the public—something usually missing in civic projects. Since 1981 in his capacity as the Assistant Director of the Housing and Community Development Department, Assistant Director of the Planning Department and as Planning Director for the City of Omaha, Mr. Peters was responsible for Omaha's award-winning neighborhood development program, completed a new comprehensive Master Plan for the City, managed the preparation of major comprehensive plan sections and was involved in many aspects of city development and policy. Mr. Peters' 35-year urban design and development career showcases his commitment to planning excellence and innovation in a wide variety of imaginative housing and large-scale economic development projects throughout Omaha. His work, which has included trend-setting redevelopment and construction projects in North,Central and South Omaha is distinguished by the $2.5 billion Riverfront renaissance currently under construction in Downtown , Omaha, the Destination Midtown, North Downtown Development, Benson Alliance, North Omaha Development and Park Avenue Redevelopment projects and'by the recently adopted Urban Design Master Plan for the City of Omaha,more commonly referred to as"Omaha by Design". After retiring from the City of Omaha in 2005,Mr. Peters established the Robert Peters Company, an Omaha-based consulting firm with specialization in project management, financing, land use and development. Since its inception, the Robert Peters Company has provided a wide range of services including site selection, feasibility analysis, land use planning, design management and sustainable financing to prominent members of Omaha's corporate and development communities. Mr. Peters has received numerous national awards for project design and management including the prestigious James C. Howland Urban Enrichment Award from the National League of Cities. Mr. Peters was inducted into the State of Nebraska's Housing Hall of Fame in 2003.
