This award to the Omaha Police Department will provide funding for interoperable police radios to be installed in the new helicopters for the Air Support Unit in recognition for the work of the Omaha Police Helicopter in assisting the residents of Southwest Iowa. A continuing problem is the vast array of radio frequencies used by the different agencies. The Technisonic TDFM 7000 radios all the helicopter to become a patching platform to a the helicopter and ground units to talk during emergencies. These radios will allow real time communication during critical emergencies. f Goal(required) By purchasing these radios and placing them on two new helicopters ordered by the City of Omah lives will be saved, dangerous criminals will be apprehended and the helicopter will be used by Southwest Iowa agencies to find missing person; assist at fire scenes such as the Stern Oil Fire so of Council Bluffs and other emergencies. Proposal Objectives(required) In August of 2007, the City of Omaha made a committment to purchase two new helicopters to replace the 36 year old current airframes. The Cit has provided helicopter support to Omaha and th surrounding region for nearly 12 years. The air ur have been instumental in rescues, arrests, and o public safety activity. The City is seeking the func for two police band radios for the new helicopters allow communication for entities outside the OmE City limits in emergency situations. The radios we provide the ability for the helicopter to"patch" frequencies allowing Pottawattamie County Sheri and Council Bluffs Police to speak on frequecies provide by the helicopter. This would allow real tii communication when the emergency is on-going. lack of current interoperable communication, esp the southwest Iowa region has delayed response lead to unneeded danger to fire and police during responses. Outputs(required) The City of Omaha has never charged any of the eastern Nebraska or Southwest Iowa entities for• services of the helicopters. This charge has been deflected largely due to the past award by Iowa V and the Nebraska three county Homeland Securi grant.
