RE: Liquor License
Old Market Ventures, LLC
I am a resident in the Old Market and am writing to OPPOSE broadening the OFF
SALE BEER LICENSE application to Old Market Ventures, LLC—dba- Rock
Bottom Gold Medal Tap. I understand that Rock Bottom is a brewhouse; however,
there are many venues to purchase off sale beer and it is not necessary to allow a
restaurant to add off sale.
This property sits in close proximity to residential housing. As a matter of fact the
floors above the restaurant, buildings directly across the street to the north and
around the corner to the south and southwest are home to hundreds of residents
who pay a city imposed fee to operate the Downtown Improvement District to
enhance the vitality of downtown Omaha.
This application could encourage all restaurant/bars to request a similar extension
of their licenses to be competitive.
Many others have expressed concerns about an application that could induce more
problems such as after hours carousing, safety and general reputation for residents
and businesses. Downtown residents accept the lively atmosphere in which we live.
That is among the reasons we chose to live here; however, it is not responsible or in
best interest of the city or the public to knowingly add a negative influence into an
area that is thriving and among the top tourist sites in the State of Nebraska.
An off sale license is seen as a "just one more for the road" invitation. It is not
necessary for a restaurant.
Thank you for considering these comments.
