The attached Ordinance provides for the creation of a new classification, Graphics Specialist. A
copy of the new class specification is attached for your convenience. •
The Graphic Specialist classification was created at the request of the Library Director. The person
in this classification will create signage and print materials to advertise library events,programs,and
services,as well as work on the library's brand,website,and press materials. The position will help
the library system become more visible and project an innovative image. The need for a full-time
Graphics Specialist within the library has increased extensively over the past two years. A part-time
employee currently performs the duties but the workload has expanded to a point that it needs to be
full-time.
The Library Director has requested that this position be the equivalent to a Library Specialist. The
Library intends to use the funds currently allocated to the part-time position and combine those funds
with fees previously paid to outside venders to meet these needs,to fund the position. The Human
Resources Department reviewed the recommendation and determined that it appears appropriate. It
is recommended that the salary for the Graphics Specialist classification be set at 7.1 MC($35,184 to
$42,575).
The classification was submitted and approved by the Personnel Board at its February 25, 2010,
meeting.

AN ORDINANCE to amend Section 23 - 177 of the Omaha Municipal Code concerning
employment classifications by adding the employment classification entitled Graphics Specialist
with a salary range of 7.1 MC ($35,184 to $42,575); to repeal Section 23 - 177 as heretofore
existing; and to provide the effective date hereof.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF OMAHA:
Section 1. Due to the length of the affected ordinance, Omaha City Council Rule VlI(B)
requiring amending ordinances to recite the entire section is hereby waived solely for the
purposes of this ordinance and only the lined out material to be deleted and the underlined
material to be added shall be recited herein.
Section 2. That Part A Classifications — Civilian Management, subpart Library (05) of
Section 23 - 177 of the Omaha Municipal Code is hereby amended by adding the classification
entitled Graphics Specialist, Code Number 0765, pay range (7.1MC) which has a salary range of
$35,184 to $42,575, as follows:

repealed.
Section 4. This ordinance, being legislative in character, and in accordance with Section
2.12 of the Home Rule Charter of the City of Omaha, shall be in full force and take effect fifteen
(15)following the date of its passage.

Lack of DNA evidence can hinder prosecution and lead to dismissals and undesirable plea bargains. The
requested funding will triple the amount of funds available for DNA testing, resulting in more effective
prosecution of violent crimes.

NATURE OF WORK
Incumbents in this classification perform a variety of graphic design functions in the
creation of promotional materials for all system libraries. Duties include maintaining
media contacts, writing press releases and articles with library staff, and assisting the
Library Webmaster on various projects. An employee in this classification exercises
considerable independence; however, work is reviewed periodically by a supervisor.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (Any one position may not perform all the duties listed, nor
do the listed examples include all the duties that may be performed in positions allocated
to this class.)
• Prioritizes projects and schedules them accordingly.
Oversees and participates in the graphic design, printing, and delivery of materials such
as forms, letters, reports,brochures,bulletins and miscellaneous artwork.
Proofreads copy and returns it to the requesting party with recommended changes.
Maintains records and originals of completed work.
Keeps inventory of supplies and orders stock as needed.
Keeps accurate records of printing requests and products for statistical purposes.
Performs other related duties as assigned or as the function dictates within the scope of
this classification.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS,AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of business English, spelling, grammar, and punctuation.
Extensive knowledge of computer systems used for graphic design, including but not
limited to Adobe InDesgn, Adobe PageMaker, Illustrator, and Photoshop and layout
techniques.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office software, including word processing, spreadsheets, and
databases.
