To do a new replacement facility could be in excess of$100 million. • We have no readily available funding mechanism for either the renovation or a new facility without going to a special bond election. • With the new Ralston Ice Arena facility coming into operation,'we will have reduced demands for the Civic Auditorium facility. • With the new Ralston facility we will end up/with'excess capacity in,the, metropolitan area when considering the Ralston facility, CenturyLink, TD Ameritrade Park, Mid-America Center in Council Bluffs,Storm Chaser Stadium in Sarpy County, and the Civic Auditorium. Therefore, we need a proposal that capturess.more of theapacity of our existing facilities rather than putting renovation dollars into the Civic or demolishing and replacing it with a new auditorium. • \ • Therefore, I am proposing: t ,l o That the City convene a task.fforce with the metropolitan schools that use the Civic Auditorium for graduations, musical concerts andi associated, venues"to determine the feasibility of moving to other facilities in the metropolitan area:. o That the City convene a task'force of the dance anld'other musical recital groups to determine the feasibility of moving to-other f\ilities in the_tropolitan area. Ice N • With the Ralston facility, there will be adequate indoor ice sheets for the public and youth sports leagues, as well as for professional hockey. • For the University of Nebraska,-they will need to address facility needs for practice while continuing to use CenturyLink for their hockey games. • To augment the public demand for ice which is primarily from October to March, it is recommended that the City of Omaha explore outdoor rather than indoor ice availability. • It is recommended that the Benson Ice Facility not be rebuilt but rather an outdoor ice rink be placed somewhere in Downtown Benson. • Other potential ice facilities could be considered at Stinson Park at AkSarBen Village; Elkhorn Common Ground; or Midtown Crossing. • We need a financing plan to implement the outdoor ice rinks.
